The Wittig Report - on the Interface Between Life and Art

-------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to the Wittig Report...

On the one hand there is 'Art,' and on the other hand, there is 'Life,'

...and somewhere in the middle, they meet.

March produced twenty-two small paintings, watercolours and Chinese

ink, and one short but significant essay... one that I describe an

'action essay', because it describes a change that I have implemented

on my website.

Anyone who ever wanted to grab one or more of my images, but who did

not, because of copyright concerns, might be pleased to know that I

have declared the images 'Open Source', and encourage people to save

copies in their computer if they want, and also, to download a Windows

screensaver/ slideshow program, also freeware, if they would like to

use the images in that capacity.

For more details, make sure to read the article, below.

thumbnails are for March.

Article: 'Copyright vs. Copywrong - The Open Source Painter'

"As of today, the 'Permission to Copy' statement on the Intro Page of

my website has been slightly amended, to tell visitors that if they

want, not only do they have permission to grab free copies of my Web

images, but also, the link to a freely distributed screen saver/ slide

show program, for displaying the images on their computer. Instead of

worrying about protecting my web images from 'theft', I will encourage

their distribution. After all, I will still have the paintings

themselves, and the 'print' copy rights, to earn a living from. the

web images are the equivalent of the 'source code' in computing, and

the scientific knowledge in the pure sciences, that are freely

distributed by their respective authors.

This is... heh... hardly an original idea... just a good one."

Featured Website - Diane Whitehead

I've known Diane for a year or two from one of my mailing lists. Most

painters I have met on such lists, talk more than they paint... and

while they are talking, they are left in the dust, by painters like

Diane, who paints more than she talks.

A true 'paint rat'.

"Boldness has genius, power and magic

Engage, and the mind grows heated

Begin, and the work will be completed." (Goethe)
