The Wittig Report - on the interface between Life and Art




Welcome to the Wittig Report.

On the one hand there is 'Art,' and on the other hand, there is 'Life,'

...and somewhere in the middle, they meet.

July was hot, so I declared it a 'vacation' of sorts... meaning I worked about as much as usual, but got a lot less done than I do in cooler months. One thing I did, was to turn my focus to 'sketching', as opposed to more formal renderings. By definition, a sketch is a hasty or undetailed drawing or painting, and yet sketching is a skill that in my opinion, every painter should acquire, but most of us wind up not practicing very much, because we are too intent on presenting (and selling) our 'best' work. Besides... July was so hot, sitting outside (in the shade) with a sketch pad, was a lot more interesting an idea than sitting inside, at my sweltering easel, for any great length of time.

Article: EBay Revisited - 3 Months Later

"If a dealer were to walk up to me tomorrow, and off to represent my work... assuming I thought well of the dealer as an individual... I would probably say yes, at least to see what happened. But I have abandoned my search for a dealer or gallery, to represent my work. In time, I will build a name for myself, through my own efforts. After that has been accomplished, I suspect that I will find dealers coming to me, asking to represent my work. In this respect, finding a dealer is like getting a bank to loan you money... both are happy to serve you, if you have enough of each one's particular collateral, to make their services un-necessary."

Featured Artist - Paul Roark


I found this guy while doing some research on the Epson 3000 printer, with a mind toward producing my own work in Black and White. He is primarily a photographer, and his work is very impressive. In his words:

 

"Although I have been a traditional darkroom printer for years, technology
has now reached the point where, in my view, the latest digital printing
processes have surpassed the traditional silver print in most
respects.  As such, while I still will print special-order, selenium-toned
silver prints, I recommend and use this new digital process for most of
my display prints."
