The Wittig Report - on the interface between Life and Art

Welcome to the Wittig Report.

On the one hand there is 'Art,' and on the other hand, there is 'Life,'

...and somewhere in the middle, they meet.

November was a fairly busy month... twenty-one small paintings, mostly watercolours, and two essays, one from the fine arts, and one from life.

Having already produced a significant body of 'serious' and larger format work in past years (and months), I am continuing to work on smaller format pieces, in a more fluent and less formal style. A couple of 'political' pieces found their way into this month's work, as well... one of which, is the subject of the essay from 'life'.

I would like to wish all of my subscribers a happy holiday season... which ever holidays you might choose to celebrate.

Article: Manifesto

Art and science, the disciplines that advance humanity emotionally and intellectually, are essential to our evolution, into something decent, that deserves continued survival. Neither can turn the trick, without the other.

If you want to see what happens, when science gets ahead of art... when intellect gets ahead of emotional maturation... take a look around"

Article: AntiReason - 21st Century Tribal Warfare in the Nuclear Global Village

"I am fairly certain that one thing or another in this essay will offend almost everyone, so I will make it as brief as possible... the better to offend the greatest number of people, in the least number of words..."

Featured Website - Jerry Weiss

In his own words...

"I  once read a description that drew this distinction between a good
portrait painter and a superior one: the good one painted people
as if they were about to speak, the other painted his subjects as
if they possessed the power of thought. I aim for the latter quality,
because I find implied action more fascinating than the explicit...lt
is the search for what lies beneath the surface of things that impels
me and drives a painting forward. In my work I strive not only for
accuracy, but for a sense of spontaneity, of life."
