The Wittig Report - on the Interface Between Life and Art
-------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to the Wittig Report...
On the one hand there is 'Art,' and on the other hand, there
is 'Life,'
...and somewhere in the middle, they meet.
November produced 36 watercolour paintings, which was quite
a
challenge, as the month was only 30 days to begin with, and
had
Halloween at one end, and Thanksgiving at the other end,
offering me
plenty of distractions.
I think that all those oil paintings I produces summer past
must have
had an influence on how I now paint watercolour... I notice
that I am
using a lot more gouache... an opaque medium, that I was
previously
using as if it was watercolour, instead of exploiting its
opaqueness.
My paintings this month all start out with watercolour for a
translucent background, and then employ increasing amounts
of gouache,
as the work gradually progresses into the foreground... an
interesting
technique.
Let me take a brief moment, to wish all of you... my
readers... a
happy and healthy holiday season, regardless of which
holiday, you
choose to celebrate.
See you again after the New Year!

Article:
There is no article this month. I have one in the works, but
I did not
want to rush it along, and do a sloppy job. Next month.

Featured Website #1 Nancy Bea Miller
In her words:
" am a contemporary genre painter. My paintings are
about
relationships, both visual and psychological. I'm interested
in the
stories people and objects tell as they relate to each
other. Because
it adds an extra layer of meaning for me as I paint, I like
to use
objects that have some personal history in my still-lifes.
The toys
are from my own childhood, or were discarded by my three
young
children. I prefer to grow most of the vegetables and flowers
I paint,
since this way I have a relationship with them that
transcends the
merely visual."
