The Wittig Report - on the Interface Between Life and Art

-------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to the Wittig Report...

On the one hand there is 'Art,' and on the other hand, there is 'Life,'

...and somewhere in the middle, they meet.

January was yet another busy month... twenty-six small paintings,

watercolours and Chinese ink, and one essay.

I also turned out a fairly interesting short program in the C

programming language... hopefully I will have the code debugged,

commented, and on-line for interested persons, by March.

Last month, I was happy to announce that I had finally acquired

gallery representation... heh... this month, I am even more happy to

announce that the relationship has been severed this person and I were

simply not cut out for each other... a few detail (but no names) in

this month's essay.

"The immature man wants to die nobly for a cause, while the mature man

wants to live humanely for one." Wilhelm Steckel

Article: The Attraction Model vs. The Promotional Model - Selling

One's Work in the Fine Visual Arts

"There are all sorts of high-flown theories on 'Art' (with a capital

'A') that relegate earning money to a 'non-Art' issue... something not

to be considered in the list of motivating factors, where producing

work in the fine visual arts is concerned. However, unless an

entry-level painter (or 'artist', if you prefer) is independently

wealthy... if they want to paint full time, then sooner than later,

the issue of how they turn what they produce into cash, is going to

become a matter of major importance, because of the existence of

Bills (with a capital 'B')..."

Featured Website - Richard Yoder

This fellow is an excellent painter, who specialises in trompe

l'oeil... paintings that 'fool the eye' into thinking they are real,

3D objects.

He uses some Flash animation on the site, but it loads fairly quickly,

and is well designed. His work is, in my opinion, worth the short

delay, while the Flash modules load.
