The Wittig Report - on the Interface Between Life and Art

-------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to the Wittig Report...

On the one hand there is 'Art,' and on the other hand, there is 'Life,'

...and somewhere in the middle, they meet.

May produced 37 paintings and drawings, and one short art-related

essay.

This was possibly the most productive single month I have ever had...

at least it is the most productive on that I can remember. Most of the

work, and the essay, are about painting from memory and

imagination...what will be the final (and most challenging) phase, in

my self-education.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

"Aim for the stars... and maybe you will clear the tree tops." -I have

no idea, who said this.

May 2003, 37 pieces:

For the sake of brevity, I point you to the thumbnail page. Clicking

on any of the small images will open up the full image pages. The last

37, are from the month of May:

Article: Painting from Imagination

"Somewhere along the line, a painter ceases to be a 'student', and

becomes a 'painter'.

In years long passed, painters underwent a long apprenticeship, and

then became journeymen, when the apprenticeship was finished. I do not

know if this sort of system still exists in the world somewhere, but I

do not think it exists in my neck of the(urban) woods... Chicago,

Illinois, U.S.A... and if is does, I never had an opportunity to

participate."

Featured Website - Ken Auster

This guy's work is excellent, but the blurb newmastersgallery stuck on

his page is so lame, that I will not reproduce it here. His paintings,

on the other hand... are worth a long look.
