The Wittig Report - on the Interface Between Life and Art

-------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to the Wittig Report...

On the one hand there is 'Art,' and on the other hand, there is 'Life,'

...and somewhere in the middle, they meet.

September was typically busy, producing 33 oil paintings, and 1

art-related essay.

It is summer's end, so I am so I am finishing up my oil painting for

the season, and switching over to less-smelly water and dry medias, as

the doors and windows are closed up, to retain heat. Maybe I will be

lucky, and finish off a few more, if we catch an Indian Summer.

I expect this to be a very productive autumn, as I round the bend,

into my final year of studies in the fine arts.

So much to learn... so little time.

Heh.

September 2003, 33 oil paintings:

For the sake of brevity, I point you to the thumbnail page. This

month's work, are the last 33 thumbnails, on the bottom of the page,

of 99 thumbnail images. Damn! I missed doing 100 pieces in three

month, by a single piece. Oh, well... at least I wasn't counting,

while I was painting.<g>

Article: WittigReport

"Without an agent, or artist's representative, a lot of chores are

left to be done by the painter, that might have been handled by

someone else, in the past... but the payback is complete autonomy...

no-one to claim credit, and a share of the profits, in the event of

success... and no-one to blame, either... in the event of failure.

Finally... in the beginning if the 21st century... painters have

achieved near-complete independence of means... if they choose to

seize it. They no longer need to work in the employ of priest, king,

pope, politician, wealthy patron, gallery, dealer, or any other

intermediary.

What they will do... with this newfound freedom... is yet to be seen."

Featured Website - Jeff Zimmerman

This guy paints big outdoor murals around Chicago, plus doing some

excellent studio work as well. I was looking for something else when I

found his site, but I recognised the work right away, from traveling

around Chicago.

Definitely worth a look.
